Future of Manufacturing & Industrial Labor
In the face of rising energy prices, geopolitical uncertainties and profound changes in the world of work, German industry is at a decisive turning point. This analysis, based on 30 expert interviews and extensive research, examines how the future of industry could develop and what consequences this has for industrial work.
Although the idea of deindustrialization has gained ground in recent years due to gloomy forecasts, a more complex reality emerges beyond this doom and gloom. Traditional industries are under pressure, but at the same time new opportunities are opening up in knowledge-intensive sectors and innovative technologies. This analysis examines the interplay of economic, technological, geopolitical and social developments and their impact on industry.
A central focus is on the transformation of industrial work, which must realign itself in the midst of all these developments. This concerns both education and training as well as the way industrial work is understood by itself and by others. Companies, trade unions, associations, educational institutions and politicians are equally called upon to promote future-oriented working models and drive forward the necessary adjustments.
This report invites you to play an active role in shaping the future of German industry and industrial work.
